LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted on two ballot proposals to enact mandatory earned paid sick leave for all employees and to increase the state’s minimum wage. The proposals passed. In response, state Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“Anyone working hard for themselves and their family deserves a fair wage, and the opportunity to take care of themselves or those they love when they’re ill.  Hundreds of thousands of Michiganders expressed their support for these ideas when they signed their names to these ballot initiatives, and I was proud to stand by those values today. Since these initiatives passed with overwhelming support, the people of Michigan expect that their government will honor their wishes and not gut the legislation that they have long been fighting for.  We must ensure our citizens that work hard can achieve a decent life here in Michigan.  We need to continue to fight for a real living wage.”
