DETROIT — Yesterday, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement completed the deportation of 39-year-old Michigan man Jorge Garcia, a father of two and husband of an American citizen, who was brought to the U.S. as a child. In response, state Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“Jorge Garcia came here as a 10-year-old boy; he had no choice when he was brought to the United States. But with his determination, he has become a success story, and yet this administration has separated a family and sent a hardworking, taxpaying man back to a country he barely knew. I am appalled this father and husband was torn from his family. Mr. Garcia lived here for nearly 30 years, he has two young children, he has a wife, and he has a job. Who are we to stand in the way of a man living the American Dream?”
