LANSING — Today, following the passage of the driver responsibility fee repeal package, state Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“This is a victory for those that want to better their position in life but were unfairly targeted because they did not have an expendable income. Driver responsibility fees were an oppressive measure that allowed the state to take more from families that were already downtrodden.
“My bill, House Bill 5041, provides various departments the funds they need to educate those that were adversely affected by these fees and inform individuals that they can reclaim their driver’s license.”
