LANSING — Yesterday, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) issued the following statement:
“Nearly 400,000 Michigan citizens came together to initiate these laws because they were tired of waiting for Michigan Republicans to do their job and improve the everyman’s quality of life. None of my colleagues in this chamber are forced to work a second or third job just to put food on the table or keep the lights on, but millions of Michiganders are forced to do just that. These bills are a disgrace to our democracy and to all of the people who worked tirelessly to get the proposals to the ballot. I am ashamed that my colleagues have again undermined the will and desires of the people to accommodate their corporate donors.”
