LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted on a proposal to repeal the state’s prevailing wage law, which ensured that workers on state projects were paid a fair wage. The proposal passed by a vote of 56-53. In response, state Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement:
“The facts about repealing prevailing wage are simple: repeal is designed to increase profits for contractors and CEOs at the expense of the workers they hire. I didn’t come to Lansing to vote for a proposal that leaves working people earning less and families struggling to keep food on the table or save for retirement. Our workers don’t work hard in the trenches, on the top floors of tall buildings and on our busy roadways just to help keep wealthy CEOs in their jobs and nice offices – they work day-in and day-out to build opportunity for themselves and their family. That’s the Michigan our families deserve, and that’s the Michigan I fought for today by voting no.”
