“I am saddened to hear of this action today, as it means that the state is more comfortable displacing hundreds of students, upsetting their academic routines, and jeopardizing their education, than it is adequately funding our public schools. It is shameful that the governor has known for months that we are underfunding our schools by nearly $1,200 per pupil, yet nothing was done. No additional funding or resources were provided to help keep these schools open, or to address the non-academic issues that might have been affecting school performance. Our students and our community deserve better, and I intend to work diligently with local school administrators to help address immediate needs and work to prevent this closure.”
