LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder made his annual budget presentation today. In response, state Rep. Tom Cochran (D-Mason) issued the following statement:
“While Gov. Rick Snyder’s recommendation to increase per-pupil funding in education is a step in the right direction, it is just a baby step. Our schools are still trying to regain their footing after the massive funding cuts the governor made at the start of his time in office, and this increase — if it makes it into the final budget — isn’t nearly enough to undo all the damage of his earlier cuts. Giving our kids a great education unlocks the door to a better future. We need a state budget that will open those doors and put them on the path toward a good job, greater opportunities and financial freedom.”
