LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement:

“Michiganders work hard to earn strong paychecks and secure benefits that will support them and their families. It was utterly disingenuous for Republicans to pass these bills only to come back and gut them today. Legislative Republicans are more interested in playing political games than truthfully casting their votes, and in doing so violate the trust voters place in each of us as elected officials. The changes they made were rushed through the legislative process with no input or desire to find a compromise that preserves the benefits people fought to have enacted. It is unconscionable that these State Senators and Representatives blatantly deceived the people by pretending to support these policies in September.”
