LANSING — Today, the state Legislature passed measures that could take health care away from hundreds of thousands of Michigan families and cut the pay of construction workers across the state. In response, state Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:

“Few things matter more to working families than their financial security and the ability to take themselves and their children to a doctor when they are sick. Today, the Michigan Legislature managed to attack both of those, and in doing so, undermine the confidence working people have in their future here in Michigan. Lawmakers who voted to strip health care from thousands of working people and cut the pay of construction and skilled trades workers have proved they hold working people in contempt, which is why it was impossible for me to vote in favor of either of these proposals. I will always be on the side of Michigan’s working families, fighting for their financial freedom and their ability to realize their American dreams.”
