LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted on the One Fair Wage and MI Time to Care citizen ballot initiatives, which would increase the minimum wage and guarantee paid sick leave for all, respectively. The proposals passed. In response, state Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:

“Stronger wages and paid sick leave are huge wins for working people and I am proud to stand with the working families of West Michigan today to turn these proposals into reality. Nobody should have to choose between the job that provides for their family and taking care of a sick child or elderly parent. In the coming months, I will defend the integrity of these citizen-led initiatives and fight against any attempt by legislative leaders to take money out of the pockets of hardworking Michiganders who struggle every day to get ahead.”
