LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement

“Despite the people of Michigan making it clear they want to eliminate the sub-minimum wage and have earned paid sick leave, outgoing Republican leadership is using lame-duck session as an opportunity to go against the will of the people. For six years as a state representative, I have advocated for these policies, and for Republicans to undermine the citizen-led initiative process by gutting these initiatives now is downright shameful. These bills negatively affect tens of thousands of Michiganders who are simply struggling to make ends meet, and treat working people as just another expense on a spread sheet.”
