LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:
“After eight years of putting profits before people, Republicans are now employing an unconstitutional sleight-of-hand to further rob Michigan families. This time they want to take away the freedom to earn a living wage and care for loved ones. This is a blatant attempt to cheat Michiganders not only out of fair wages and paid sick leave, but of their constitutional right to a referendum. It sends the message loud and clear that Republicans are here to serve their wealthy special interest friends, not the will of the people.”
