“I am profoundly saddened that the prosecutors report clearly showed that Rep. Schmidt engaged in a conspiracy to rig the November election in his favor. This was a coordinated effort to defraud voters in the 76th House District. This was unworthy of Grand Rapids and unworthy of a member of the House of Representatives. This is a sad day for the Grand Rapids community and state government when leaders behave in this manner. Grand Rapids citizens value honesty and integrity and they deserve better from their elected officials. It is time for Mr. Schmidt to do the right thing and resign.”
