“Today, I had the privilege of seeing my bill, now known as Public Act 111 of 2016, signed into law by the governor. This law was the culmination of months of conversations with my constituents and collaborations with colleagues on how to best tackle acts of vandalism in Detroit, and I am proud to see that work come to fruition. While I have a number of people to thank for their contributions and insight into this issue, I want to express sincere appreciation for my father, former Rep. Fred Durhal Jr., for his tutelage and teaching, both on the lawmaking process and on how to best respond to the needs of his community. This law is one small but important step to making Detroit safer for motorists, seniors and children. I’m excited to see how it will transform our district, and I welcome this positive change for the people of Detroit.”
