“It was an honor to testify in front of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and Homeland Security in support of my House Concurrent Resolution 29. This resolution urges the Department of Defense to apply uniform standards when awarding the Purple Heart so that it applies to individuals with traumatic brain injuries. I am pleased that the committee voted out HCR 29 yesterday with a recommendation that the resolution be passed by the full Senate. No matter the type of injury, every veteran who has been wounded in combat has displayed heroic devotion to defend our country and they are without a doubt deserving of recognition for their sacrifices. This is another positive step to help ensure that all members of the United States Armed Forces who are wounded in battle are honored with the Purple Heart medal they deserve for defending our freedom and safety. I thank the committee members for their support and look forward to HCR 29 being passed by the Senate.”
