“I was pleased to welcome hundreds of seniors to the Capitol today as part of Older Michiganians Day. Among the concerns I’ve heard repeatedly from our older citizens is the need for assistance in retrofitting homes to accommodate disabilities and accessibility issues. That’s why I introduced House Bill 4719 last year, which would provide a tax incentive for individuals who purchase a new residence or retrofit an existing residence to meet accessibility standards. Many seniors want to remain in their homes, and this bill would help them stay independent. I’m renewing the call to take up my legislation in the House Tax Policy Committee, and I urge my colleagues to support this measure to assist our older Michiganians.”
