“Sunday, July 26, marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities to participate in the mainstream of American life. I’m proud to co-sponsor House Resolution 115, introduced by state Rep. Julie Plawecki, commemorating the anniversary of this landmark law that protects the rights of people living with disabilities.

“I’ve also introduced legislation with state Sen. Vince Gregory to allow individuals with physical disabilities to continue to live a safe and independent life in their own home. House Bill 4719 and Senate Bill 395 would provide financial relief for people who modify their homes to meet accessibility standards.

“In inner-ring suburbs like those in my district and in communities throughout the state, many existing homes weren’t built to accommodate those with physical limitations.

“This anniversary of the signing of the ADA should remind us of undue burdens that individuals with disabilities still face and renew our efforts to create a more physically accessible society.”
