“I was proud today to co-sponsor a bill that will update Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include legal protections for Michigan’s LGBT citizens. Making Michigan an inclusive state welcoming to everyone isn’t just a matter of basic fairness, but it will also encourage corporations to grow jobs here and millennials to plant roots here.

I introduced a similar human rights ordinance in Southfield when I served on the city council so that our city would stand out as welcoming and diverse place with continuing economic growth. It’s time the entire state catches up Southfield and the nearly 40 other local communities in Michigan with inclusive civil rights protections.”
