“I am outraged at the recent decision to reverse the state’s initial course of action by deciding to privatize food services in the Department of Corrections. This shortsighted decision has the potential to leave 373 hardworking people without a job. Displacing Michigan workers to benefit a Pennsylvania corporation is unconscionable and is in direct contrast to the need to get Michigan back to work.
“I am concerned that the “savings” that many are touting will occur from this privatization is nothing more than a shift of funds to show artificial savings. The contract still must go before the state Administrative Board and the Civil Service Commission for approval and it is my hope that selling off our prison food service to Pennsylvania is seen as the poor policy decision that it is.”
