“I have serious concerns about the legislation moving through the House and Senate changing Michigan’s Workers’ Compensation Laws. The changes will cast doubt on the integrity of the workers’ compensation program in terms of fair determinations, our workers’ ability to receive adequate care from a doctor of their choice, and will severely limit financial support through the factoring of theoretical wages the worker could earn at some other job. We do not expect our injured police officers to take a job as a telemarketer and reason needs to be more present in this process. Unfortunately, I worry that many Michigan workers injured at their jobs will be forced onto taxpayer-funded state programs that are receiving reduced support but increased need in our current economic climate.”
