“Wayne State University has reached an agreement on a contract with their employees as any Michigan employer has the right to do. This is a contract negotiation between WSU and its employees who have been working under a contract extension since summer. Lansing Republicans have no right to interfere in this process as a third party. News reports indicate that the new contract includes a review process for tenured professors who may be having problems and additional long term savings in health care costs. These new provisions in the contract certainly look like they are good for professors, students and the tax payers. Instead of trying to interfere with third party contract negotiations, the Legislature should be working on ways to fund education so our young people can attend Wayne State or any Michigan college or university and compete for 21st century jobs.”
