“I find it incredibly disrespectful to the people of Michigan that Republican lawmakers have refused to compromise and ignored the tens of thousands of people across the state who have rallied to make their voices heard loud and clear that these are not the changes they want for our state. Lawmakers should not be raising taxes on our seniors and families at a time when they can least afford it in order to give an 82-percent tax break to big corporations.
“To make things worse, this plan carries absolutely no guarantee of the creation of any new jobs. And if we’re serious about turning our state around and revitalizing our economy, we cannot keep taking money from our schools. We cannot expect great things from our students when politicians continually slash funding that will force them to learn with old textbooks and outdated technology. For those reasons – and many more – I could not support this bill.”
