LANSING, Mich., Jan. 24, 2025 — Yesterday, Republican-sponsored House Bills 4001 and 4002 were passed out of the House of Representatives. Despite several attempts by Democratic members to improve the bills via amendments, their suggestions were not adopted by their Republican counterparts. After the vote, state Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“I voted ‘no’ on these bills because they do not yet meet the need to support workers and our economy. As a representative for my community in Detroit, I am committed to putting those I represent at the forefront of the work I do each day — and these bills can be made better. We must continue to provide breathing room for Michigan residents and their families. We need to support workers receiving wages and benefits they deserve — along with creating a positive climate for employers to thrive.”
