LANSING, Mich., April 8, 2022 — State Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit) is calling on leaders of the majority House Republican Caucus today to take up House Resolution 241. The resolution condemns the Republican National Committee for its attempt to call the violent, deadly and seditious January 6 insurrection on our nation’s Capital “legitimate political discourse.” The insurrection the RNC called “legitimate political discourse” resulted in the deaths of at least five people and over 100 injuries while leaving the chamber of the United States Senate and congressional offices ransacked, vandalized and looted. Tate issued the following statement:

“As elected officials, it is our duty to stand up for our democracy and what’s right. But instead of condemning the RNC for its role in sowing distrust and lies, my resolution still waits for a hearing in the Committee on Government Operations 36 days after it was introduced. I will always speak truth to power and protect our institutions from those trying to topple them. I hope my colleagues can say the same.”
