Two post offices located within the 10th District that were scheduled for closing on Jan. 1, 2012, will now remain open. The United States Post Office (USPS) recently announced that the Joyfield Station at 16500 Joy Road in Detroit and the Brightmoor Station at 20615 Fenkell St. in Detroit will continue to offer window service and mail distribution within the respective communities. We thank the many constituents who contacted me on this issue of vital importance. In addition, I have written a letter to the USPS District Manager, Charles Howe, that vehemently opposes the impending closures of other post offices. The letter points out the necessity of access to retail postal services for our community. My opposition letter was also signed by other elected members of the Michigan House and Senate representing Detroit who joined me in condemning the reduction of services in Detroit and the scheduled closing of six other postal stations in Detroit.
