State Representatives Scott Dianda (D-Calumet), John Kivela (D-Marquette), and Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan), state Senator Tom Casperson (R-Escanaba), and Dave Nyberg, Gov. Rick Snyder’s northern Michigan district director, released a public service announcement today regarding the current propane crisis. According to the Michigan Public Service Commission, propane inventories in the U.P. are 43 percent below last year’s level.
“This propane shortage is a major issue for the U.P. families we represent,” said Dianda. “I am proud to be working with my fellow legislators to make sure residents are informed of the situation and equipped with the necessary tools to stay warm throughout this long winter.”
In the video, legislators voice their awareness of the issue and suggest modes of dealing with the crisis, including calling 2-1-1 for help with heating costs, checking in on neighbors and donating to local food banks and charities.
“We care about the communities in our districts,” Dianda said. “This video is just one more way we are working to help out those in need during this time of crisis.”
As the crisis continues, legislators are asking U.P. residents to conserve as much fuel as possible, as they are unsure of how long the propane shortage will last. If residents have any concerns with this situation, they are asked to contact their local legislative office.
