LANSING, Mich., Jan. 13, 2021 — State Rep. Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) was sworn in today as representative for the 2021-2022 legislative session. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 101st Legislature.

“As a former educator, I’ve seen first-hand the impact decades of inadequate funding has had on our classrooms, and that was even before the COVID-19 placed challenge after challenge before our students and teachers,” said Weiss. “I’m humbled to have this opportunity to serve my fellow community members in this new capacity, and will continue to fight so that the success of our classrooms are given the priority they deserve.”

Rep. Weiss is serving her first term representing the 27th House District, which encompasses the cities of Berkley, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Oak Park and Pleasant Ridge, as well as Royal Oak Township. After graduating from Valparaiso University, Weiss moved to Michigan and began her career as an educator with Detroit Public Schools Community District, followed by serving as an Oak Park City Council member before joining the Michigan Legislature.
