LANSING, Mich., Feb. 23, 2022 — Yesterday, the Detroit City Council voted to approve the redevelopment of the American Motors Corporation’s Plymouth Road Office Complex site. NorthPoint Development now has the go-ahead to demolish and remediate the building, which fell into disrepair after being shuttered over a decade ago. The demolition will make way for an automotive supply plant that promises to bring hundreds of jobs to the area. State Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit) issued the following statement in support of the city council’s decision:
“I’m excited for this next step in the abandoned American Motors Corporation site and for the redevelopment of a building that has been an eyesore in my Detroit neighborhood for well over a decade. With opportunities to create jobs in our Black communities, this is a promising endeavor for District 9 and the city of Detroit.”
