LANSING — On Tuesday, state Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods) introduced House Resolution 72 to declare May 2, 2019, as Holocaust Remembrance Day in Michigan. The resolution calls on Michiganders to remember the atrocities committed during the Holocaust while reflecting on the moral and ethical responsibilities of individuals and governments in preventing genocide and other heinous acts.
“We must never forget about the terrors of the Holocaust that haunt human history, otherwise this dark past is bound to repeat itself,” Wittenberg said. “As we recall the vile oppression and mass murder committed by the Nazis, I am honored to unite with my colleagues of all faiths and backgrounds to condemn these evil acts and encourage humanity to stand against those who would commit such atrocities.”
The resolution honors the victims, survivors and liberators of the Holocaust and calls on the citizens of Michigan to overcome hatred and intolerance through learning and remembrance.
