LANSING — Today, House Republicans approved House Bill 5526 during a marathon late-night session, establishing a school ranking system to label Michigan schools without proposing resources or solutions to address school improvement. In response to its passage, state Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods) issued the following statement:
“Students and teachers throughout Michigan rely on us as elected officials to act in their best interests. This meaningless labeling system is nothing more than a thinly veiled ploy to advance a for-profit education agenda, rather than giving our students the support and resources they need to succeed.”
