LANSING — State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) announced today that Jake Briney, a 6th grade math and science teacher at Charlotte Upper Elementary, is the winner of her Teacher of the Month Award for June. Each month, Rep. Witwer will announce the winner of this award in an effort to recognize excellence in education in the 71st House District.

“Educators play such a crucial role in our communities, and often do not get the recognition they deserve,” Witwer said. “I am honored to be able to present this award each month, and will continue to do all I can to support students and teachers with my work in the Legislature.”

The school will be holding an assembly at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, where Rep. Witwer will present Mr. Briney with the recognition.

The following is a testimonial submitted by a community member who nominated Mr. Briney:

“Mr. Briney is a teacher that cares about his students, both emotionally and academically. He has done a great job this year with my son and equally as well with my step-daughter last year. Mr. Briney extends his learning and caring beyond the classroom when he supervises extra-curricular activities.”

As part of the award process, Witwer is inviting community residents to nominate teachers they believe deserve to be celebrated as the community’s “Teacher of the Month”.
