LANSING, Mich., Dec. 10, 2020 — Recently, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) penned a letter to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), imploring them to restore funding for a road improvement project in support of the Auto Owners Insurance expansion in Eaton County. Today, MDOT announced it has agreed to the request.
“This project is incredibly important to the continued growth of our community and the businesses that are the driving force behind our economy,” said Witwer. “Times are tough, but developments like this will go a long way in helping us come out the other side of this crisis stronger. I am so thankful for MDOT’s continued support of our communities, and am excited that they recognized the importance of this project for Eaton County and Auto Owners.”
In the preceding months, the MDOT Office of Economic Development announced the cancellation of five TEDF (Transportation Economic Development Fund) grants due to the economic shortfalls caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, initially including the grant previously approved for Eaton County. The project is now set to begin construction this fiscal year.
