LANSING, Mich., June 22, 2023 — The House Committee on Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure passed a bill earlier this week to rename a portion of I-96 as the Barry Lyn Hause Memorial Highway. In 2020, a driver struck Barry Lyn Hause, critically injuring him while he worked as an operating engineer cutting concrete on one of Michigan’s major state highways. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township), sponsor of the bill, issued the following statement on the bill’s passage:
“When I was out in my district, I had the pleasure of meeting Barry Lyn Hause’s sister, Wendy, and learning his story. The construction workers who build Michigan’s roads do an incredibly valuable service. We owe it to them to drive safely. I was proud to sponsor this legislation to honor Barry’s life, his family and all the hard work he did for our state.”
