LANSING, Mich., June 28, 2021 — Members of the House introduced a bipartisan bill package that aims to combat the opioid epidemic by expanding the availability of medications in emergency departments and naloxone to community-based organizations. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township), the sponsor of House Bill 5163, issued the following statement:

“The opioid epidemic has been devastating to Eaton County and this state for too long. It’s time we do everything we can to begin healing our communities and undo the damage that has been done. Medications for opioid use disorder have been proven to save the lives of our friends, our family members, our neighbors and our loved ones. Expanding access to those in need is crucial to ending this epidemic. This package brings us a step closer in our fight to end the opioid epidemic.”
