LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Stephen Wooden (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:
“Michiganders deserve consistent access to basic necessities such as housing, health care and child care. It is unfathomable that some individuals are forced to choose between rent, meds, or a month of child care — and sometimes, can afford none of the three. It was certainly encouraging to hear the governor’s commitment to solving these issues and bring some much needed relief to our communities. Now is the time to answer the call; I look forward to taking action with my colleagues in the Legislature to get this done.”
