Lawmaker introduces resolution calling to reinstate USRAP
LANSING, Mich., June 20, 2025 — Ahead of World Refugee Day, state Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) is advocating for the rights of refugees in Michigan and across the country by introducing a resolution urging the federal government to reinstate the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). In honor of World Refugee Day and the thousands of refugees contributing to Michigan’s social, cultural and economic prosperity, Xiong issued the following statement:
“Today is about honoring the stories of the families like mine who sought refuge in America and have continued to be strong, critical members of their communities. The U.S. has long shown commitment to protecting vulnerable populations. My resolution honors World Refugee Day with action by calling on the federal government to continue our country’s humanitarian legacy.”
House Resolution 132 was referred to the House Government Operations committee.
