LANSING, Mich., April 22, 2025 — State Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) commemorated the 55th anniversary of Earth Day today. The widely celebrated annual event brings awareness to the planet’s environmental concerns.
“Happy Earth Day! While you’re taking some time to enjoy everything that our natural environment has to offer, I hope that you’ll join me in doing your part to help keep our community beautiful,” Xiong said. “I am actively cleaning up our roads and fighting to keep clean water flowing in our community. Please join us by participating in a road or park clean-up, or by planting a tree, to help keep our neighborhoods clean.”
First held on April 22, 1970, to demonstrate support for environmental protection, Earth Day has now transformed into an annual worldwide event celebrated on both a local and national scale. Activities are organized in 193 countries by EarthDay.org, by an estimated 1 billion participants.
Xiong is proud to support environmental concerns that affect both her House district and locales further afield.
On Sunday, April 13, Xiong demonstrated those efforts by holding a road clean up event, bringing constituents together to rid the trash from some of the main corridors in her community. It’s the first of several clean-ups planned for this year, furthering Xiong’s commitment to keeping the environment pollution-free.
