Democratic legislator continues calling for more affordable health care, essentials for employees
LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of more looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) issued the following statement:
“The governor made a crucial call to action in her address this evening to lower costs for the people of Michigan. Our middle-class and working families need to be able to pay for the essentials, from housing to groceries and gas, without having to break the bank. Working parents need wages that meet their families’ everyday needs, and our public employees need affordable health care.
“I was proud to bring Matthew Sahr, President of the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union, to the event this evening to express my continued support for public workers and their families. I remain dedicated to this commonsense work to ensure a high quality of life for every Michigander.”
