MACOMB, Mich., April 29, 2025 — As national attention turns to Macomb County today, state Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) reaffirmed Michigan’s commitment to the future of Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Xiong, who helped champion critical investments in the base through the state legislature, emphasized Selfridge’s role as a cornerstone of Michigan’s economy and national security.
During her time in the Legislature thus far, Xiong has supported $15 million in state budget allocations to bolster Selfridge’s operations, infrastructure improvements and readiness initiatives. After the President’s visit, Xiong issued the following statement:
“The Selfridge Air National Guard Base is vital to Macomb County and our state’s future. I’m proud of the strategic investments my colleagues and I secured for Selfridge by working across the aisle. These efforts protect national security, create jobs and support our military families in Macomb County and across the region.
“But our work is far from over. We will continue to need strong partnerships between state and federal leaders to protect our military infrastructure, expand opportunities for service members and veterans and ensure that Selfridge remains a vital part of our national defense and aerospace strategy.
“The people of Michigan deserve action — not excuses, delays or political games. Let’s get back to work!”
