LANSING, Mich., July 16, 2024 — The Michigan Legislature passed the final state budget for the 2025 fiscal year ahead of the legally required July 1 deadline. Democratic leaders crafted a budget focused on strategic, targeted investments that improve the lives of people and hometowns across Michigan without raising taxes. After the vote, state Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) issued the following statement:
“I am proud to have voted to pass a budget that invests in safeguarding our environment, provides a pathway to higher education for future generations, uplifts our hometowns and improves our infrastructure. The residents in the 13th District deserve accessible roads and water infrastructure that keeps our families healthy and safe. This budget brings critical resources back home, while prioritizing road repair and ensures that we have access to clean water.”
The budget includes several items that will directly benefit southeast Michigan communities. Notable highlights include:
- $2.5 million to Warren for Mound Road reconstruction.
- $6.6 million to Roseville for the 13 Mile Road water pump station and roadway rehabilitation.
- An additional $75 million in revenue sharing for local governments to revitalize our communities.
- $500,000 to increase free tuition at community colleges for dual-enrolled high school students pursuing public-service-focused careers, including public safety, education and health care.
