LANSING, Mich., June 22, 2021 — Recently, a federal judge granted an injunction in a lawsuit challenging Detroit’s marijuana licensing program that gives preferential treatment to longtime residents over outside investors. State Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) issued the following statement in response:
“Detroit’s legacy applicant program is a finely crafted tool to remove excessive and discriminatory barriers keeping residents from taking advantage of this new and growing industry. The community came together and worked tirelessly to develop this program to best address the inequities in the licensing system. We should follow their example and take every opportunity possible to rectify inequity whenever we see it.”
