HARPER WOODS, Mich., Oct. 28, 2020 — In recent weeks, there have been multiple instances of gun violence in Harper Woods that have left 3 individuals injured and one deceased. In response, state Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) issued the following statement:
“These incidents of gun violence over the past few weeks have been heartbreaking. No mother should ever have to bury her child, nor should we have to worry about our safety or our loved ones when heading to Eastland Mall. My own son is not much older than two of the victims, and I know all too well the issues we face in our community from my time as an assistant prosecuting attorney. I know we’re all continuing to feel the tremendous strain from the ongoing pandemic, but these tragedies only further add to it. We must step up to collectively put an end to gun violence, and ensure Harper Woods is the safe community we deserve for our families.”
