LANSING, Mich., June 16, 2022 — Yesterday, the Michigan House Tax Policy approved House Resolution 290 along a party-line vote. The resolution, which urges President Joe Biden to “reject radical open border policies and to enforce our nation’s immigration laws,” now advances to the full House for consideration. After the committee’s meeting, state Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) issued the following statement in response:
“House committees convene so that legislators and experts have the opportunity to share and discuss the proposed legislation prior to it moving to the next stage. To say the least, it is very unfortunate that the Chair deprived Democratic committee Members the opportunity to ask questions or make comments today about the resolution he sponsored. This isn’t a dictatorship, and our democracy was put at risk by circumventing the legislative process.”
