LANSING — State Representative Henry Yanez (D-Sterling Heights) introduced a bill today to rename a portion of M-53 in Sterling Heights between 14 Mile Road and M-59 the Eric C. Post Memorial Highway. Post was a Sergeant Major in the Michigan National Guard and a 14-year veteran of the Sterling Heights Fire Department serving as a firefighter and paramedic.

“I was proud to call Eric a great colleague and great friend, and we were all deeply saddened by his passing in 2014 after a long struggle with cancer, which he contracted while serving his country in Kosovo,” said Yanez. “Eric left behind a wife, a son and three daughters. Renaming the stretch of highway where he served as a firefighter in his honor would remind all of us of his service and sacrifice.”

Post served in Kosovo in 2005, Afghanistan in 2007 and was deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan.

“Eric Post devoted his life to public service, and accomplished a great deal for his country, his state and his community,” said Yanez. “It would be a fitting tribute that we should honor not only Eric’s life, but commemorate his spirit of service by renaming this stretch of M-53 where he served as a firefighter, in his honor.”
