LANSING – State Representative Henry Yanez (D-Sterling Heights) today was sworn in to his inaugural term representing the residents of Sterling Heights and Warren in the Michigan House of Representatives. The lawmaker, along with the other 109 members of the Michigan House, took the oath of office during a ceremony at the state Capitol marking the beginning of the 97th Legislature.

“I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work right away representing the residents of the 25th district said Yanez, a retired Sterling Heights firefighter. “I will be working on the issues that I highlighted in my campaign and what residents elected me to do: properly funding our schools, protecting our seniors and middle class and creating an environment for job creation.”

During his first term, Yanez will fight to protect and create good-paying jobs for our workers by attracting emerging industries and combatting threats to collective bargaining. The lawmaker will also work to reform state government to ensure that it uses our taxpayer dollars more efficiently and effectively. Yanez will work to change the recent trend of divesting the futures of Michigan children and make sure that our public education system becomes a top priority in future budgets.
