GOP Leadership fails to deliver state budget after refusing to come to negotiation table
LANSING, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 is the deadline for the legislature to pass and present a budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year to the governor. Since gaining a majority, House Republicans have delayed the budget process, refusing to come to the negotiation table in good-faith. After the deadline, state Rep. Stephanie A. Young (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“This is what happens when those in power put politics over people. The House majority leadership spoke early and often about not being concerned about meeting the July 1st deadline that helps communities and especially our school districts plan for the future. Instead, critical services now hang in the balance and the people who rely on stability get blindsided. House Republicans didn’t just drop the ball, they walked away from it. Michiganders deserve better — period. The fight continues because Love is The Work!”
