LANSING — State Rep. Adam Zemke (D-Ann Arbor) has been named Progress Michigan’s Legislator of the Month for March 2018. The honor comes on the heels of Zemke introducing House Bill 5550 to prohibit mental health professionals from engaging in efforts to change the sexual orientation and gender identity of a minor. If passed, Michigan would join nine other states and the District of Columbia in having similar statutes prohibiting conversion therapy.

“As a legislator, it is my responsibility to ensure Michiganders have the freedom to live their life as their authentic selves,” Zemke said. “That’s why it is so critical that we break down barriers to equality that would create separations within our state, and embrace one another for what makes us all unique anddifferent, because that is what makes us strong. I promise to always fight against any efforts to divide us, and will continue working to see this legislation passed into law. I am grateful to Progress Michigan for supporting this important work.”
Progress Michigan honors an elected official with the Legislator of the Month based on their dedication to creating a government that is, by and for, the people.
